Congratulations to HASSELL, whose innovative multifunctional design of the Burnley Living Roofs at the University of Melbourne’s Burnley campus won them the Landscape Design award at the prestigious Australian BPN 2015 Sustainability Awards held in Sydney overnight.

According to the judges, “This project represents the future of urban landscaping and the successful integration of rooftop green infrastructure. This kind of research is vital to ensure green infrastructure moves beyond aesthetics to becoming vital in the efficiency and ongoing performance of buildings in reducing energy use, improving thermal comfort and avoiding heat island effect.”

“It will make an important contribution to the understanding of the benefits of green roof design” they said.

An Australian first, Junglefy collaborated with HASSELL, as well as the University of Melbourne, to construct this research and demonstration facility. According to Junglefy’s Founder and MD, Jock Gammon, this project was both exciting and challenging, “Due to the restricted working hours, the hard elements of the decking and garden beds we pre-fabricated most of the construction elements in Sydney and installed them on site in Melbourne in a modular format.”

“It is fantastic to see Hassell and the University of Melbourne recognised for this innovative work and we are very proud to have been involved” said Jock.
