Student Accommodation is located within the One Central Park precinct in inner Sydney and has been designed and developed with the student residents in mind. It is a 14 storey, 826 bed student accommodation building that also features common areas and recreation and leisure facilities. Junglefy created a green roof for level 2 and two separate landscaped areas with planter boxes on levels 1 and 13 to grow herb and vegetable gardens for the students use, to encourage community gardening and “urban farming” in its most simple form. Another key feature of the project are the three custom designed steel planter boxes at the entry that support the large, 800ltr ornamental trees. These planters are the largest standalone planters on the entire Central Park Site and were one of the more challenging elements on the project.

Our Role

Junglefy was responsible for the plant selection and design for the majority of the planters, as well as the green roof on level 2. We designed, constructed and installed 3x12mm steel bench seat planters and landscaped the entire area on level 1 and introduced a combination of in-situ concrete planters and Quatro Design planters on both level 1 and level 13. We installed Modwood partition walls on level 1, Modwood clad hobs on level 13 and internal plants on level 1.

Key Innovation

Selection of plant species that survive and flourish in low light areas (the level 2 green roof only receives around 1 hour of sunlight a day).
